SMBLA Night Riding Module
The SMBLA Night Riding Endorsement consists of additional 1 day training course and further 1 day assessment for TCL and MBL holders who plan to take clients on the increasingly popular activity of night riding.
Pre-requirements for Night Riding Module
The module is open to holders of the SMBLA Trail Cycle Leader and Mountain Bike Leader Awards and will be delivered on terrain suited to the participants’ experience and qualifications.
The course will consist of a 7 hour Training Course, with at least 50% of the practical element to be undertaken in darkness. For the Module to be valid the candidate must then pass a 3 hour Assessment Course, which will be undertaken entirely during darkness.
The course will cover:
Trailside repairs in darkness, night navigation, clothing and equipment, dealing with emergencies, group control, bike lights, bike preparation and planning.
Pre-requisites
Candidates must hold a valid TCL or MBL Award, including a current relevant First Aid Certificate and be a current member of British Cycling.
Candidates should have a minimum of 4 Off-Road Night Rides of 2 hours or more logged in their logbook, of which 2 should be in terrain appropriate to the level of award level (TCL or MBL).
Candidates will be expected to attend the course adequately prepared to lead a Night Ride. Lights will not be supplied by the Tutor but advice can be given on choice of lights.
